About Wild-Type Bettas

Wild bettas are less colorful, smaller, and have shorter fins than their domesticated counterparts, with duller bodies and iridescent but less prominent colors. They inhabit densely planted bodies of water that have a lot of botanicals and leaf litter. Population densities among wild bettas, especially within the "Splendens" complex are relatively high. This demonstrates greater social tolerance than domestic bettas, which were initially bred for combat purposes before being selected for ornamental features.
